About the Role

The Vander Weele Group is seeking a Proposal Writer with experience in government proposal writing, ideally using the Shipley method, who also has experience in and a passion for research. In this position, you will be a one-person department working closely with Marketing, Sales, and our CEO to research legislation, manage the proposal process, and write winning proposals highlighting the unique skills that set us apart from our competition. This position requires phenomenal writing skills, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to conceptualize project flows and map out project work plans. 

Job Duties

  • Produce compliant, organized, and compelling material for proposals on deadline.

  • Find, analyze, and synthesize a substantial amount of material already written from the proposal content management system; revise and repurpose it for new efforts ensuring the content is tailored to meet the solicitation requirements.

  • Liaise with respective business units (CEO, Subject Matter Experts, Sales, etc.) to gather information for proposal responses.

  • Develop proposals by assembling information including project nature, objectives/outcomes/deliverables, implementation, methods, timetables, staffing, budgets, standards of performance, and evaluation.

  • Tailor our Work Plan methodology for the RFP at hand by gaining a deep understanding of what we do and how we do it. 

  • Ensure proposal formatting and language complies with Vander Weele Group’s Branding Guidelines and Guide to Formal Writing.

  • Manage the proposal process, ensuring RFP documents are successfully taken to completion, formatted correctly, and effort-free before the deadline.

  • Research and dissect relevant legislation that will assist in defining our target markets and be used in potential marketing articles.

  • Conduct market research to determine where grant streams are going and what is coming from Washington, D.C. 

  • Conduct market, sales, and lead generation research. 

  • Update General Services Administration (GSA) Schedule.

  • Apply for GSA OASIS contracting vehicle.

  • Update and manage in-house proposal content management system and track proposals in our sales system, Zoho.

  • Contribute to marketing and sales strategy and approach.

  • Undertake special projects as required.



  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, English, or related field.

  • 2-3 years of government proposal writing required.

  • Familiarity with the Shipley method of proposal writing is a plus.

  • Impeccable written communication skills, including the ability to write relevant, tailored, and error-free communications.

  • Ability to describe complex technical terms/methods clearly and engagingly.

  • Must be able to work with Subject Matter Experts to conceptualize project flows and map out project work plans.

  • Must be well-versed in formatting complex Microsoft Word documents.

  • Proficient in Excel and good in Math.

  • Strong planning and organizing skills.

  • Must be self-motivated, resilient, and have strong interpersonal skills.

  • Superior customer service skills to deal with both internal and external customers.

  • Must be able to handle stressful situations effectively.

  • High integrity, positive attitude, and professionalism.

  • Strong common sense to identify urgent and vital issues and tasks.
